Am I required to purchase a data plan if I buy an iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G?

Nope! The 3G option is a great feature to have especially if you find yourself away from a hot spot, but the 3G service is not required if you buy a 3G iPad. If or when you’re ready to purchase the 3G data plan, you can simply sign up for a contract-free 3G data plan directly from your iPad. Simply follow the directions below under the heading “How do I sign up for an AT&T 3G iPad data plan?” Or you can use the free built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi to access the Internet if you’re near a local hotspot.

Can I use my current iPhone service plan with the iPad?

Nope. The iPhone cellular service is separate plan from the iPad tablet.

Can I use my iPad while traveling outside of the U.S.?

The G3 data coverage varies depending on where you are in the world. Please check the “AT&T Data Coverage Viewer” above for accessible areas. You can still use your iPad tablet abroad by connecting to available Wi-Fi hotspots.

Are iPhone and iPad SIM cards interchangeable?

Nope. Apple is the manufacture of both the iPhone and the iPad tablet but they use different size sim cards. The iPhone uses a standard size sim card and the iPad uses a micro sim card that is approximately 52% smaller.

What happens if I choose the 250MB plan, and I reach my monthly limit?

As you approach your monthly data limit, you’ll receive onscreen messages that ask if you’d like to upgrade to another 250MB or if you would like to switch to the unlimited data plan. This is a great feature that will never leave you hanging without data coverage. Your iPad will alert you when you have less than 20%, 10% and 0% of data left. You can also manually check your data usage at anytime by going to your iPad setting tab, then cellular data.

How do I sign up for an AT&T 3G iPad data plan?

It’s so easy to sing up for an AT&T data plan! Simply, tap Settings and choose the Cellular Data tab. Then enter in your user information, select either the 250mb plan for 14.99 per month or the unlimited plan for only 29.99, then enter your credit card information and select enter.
