Does the iPad Have a Word Document? The iPad tablet has been designed to encompass all your entertainment and business requirements. But there's still one question that is asked the most.... Does the iPad tablet have a word doc or some type of program which is equivalent to Microsoft Word? Over and over again we hear people ask, "Does the iPad tablet have a word doc or a Microsoft Word app?". To make a long story short, the answer is yes! Though, the iPad does not have a Microsoft Word program as such, their are several third party applications that are used for word processing that are equivalent if not better. There has been a misconception that Microsoft Word is not compatible with Apple products. But for those of you who have used Macs in the past, you know Apple has had a close working relationship with Microsoft, and have made their products compatible with each other. So, the absence of a word processing application has nothing to do with an MS Word incompatibility issue. Then why does the question "Does the iPad have a word document" arise in the first case? The answer is simple. First time Apple users simply have not had the chance to experience the finest computer made. Apple has not found it necessary to integrate a Word application (or any word processor) with the iPad. This is perhaps because of the fact that Apple has every known software in the tablet computer industry know as.... apps! So the question whether the iPad has a Word program, doesn't matter as long as you can compile word documents through an application versus a software disk you usually load upon a standard PC. So how do you compile and manage word documents with the Apple iPad, I have several alternatives to offer you. iWorks is the best solution for your question. It is an Apple Office Suite, much like Microsoft Office and open office. Apple has completely redesigned the MacOS iWorks applications especially for the iPad. The original iWork suite contained 3 programs: Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. These apps are now available individually for the iPad for a nominal fee of just $9.99 per app. The app necessary to create word docs is called Pages. When you click on the Pages icon, it takes your content and displays it in a readable form that looks similar to Microsoft's Word Doc. If you choose to resend the same document, the program gives you a choice of whether you would like to send the doc as an email, PDF, or as a Word document. You will hardly notice that you are not using a Microsoft Word as the iPad seamlessly converts your documents and files with ease. In fact, I used Pages to write this article on my iPad!! Once I complete this article, I will simply hit send and the program will give me the choice of how I want to forward over the document. I will then send it to my webmaster as a Word doc for her to use. It's that easy! ( Note from webmaster: Yeup he sure did!! It came across exactly as a Word doc!! ) You can download and use the iPages application which allows you to save your document in the word format. As mentioned earlier, the iPad has an app solution for every known requirement of yours. This has been the key to Apples success. Whatever they might have overlooked in the initial design of the device and the software, they can always deliver it to you as an app! There is a very good chance that third party applications from companies like Microsoft could come up with iPad compatible word processing suites. There is no telling what companies will do to get a piece of the iPad market. In your quest for a suitable word software, here are two additional easy solutions for getting your word processing completed, without having to purchasing an app. You can always type your document as an Email, then send the email as a Word Doc. Another alternative would be to use an online document collaboration suite. Google docs is also an effective alternative way to compile and manage your word documents. In summary we can conclude that word processing is never going to be an issue with the iPad. It is just the absence of a readymade solution that is making people raise this question: Does the iPad have a word doc? |
